Download scientific diagram | | Liquid-phase exfoliation of hematite to hematene. Schematic of the exfoliation of bulk hematite in DMF to hematene. Hematite is exfoliated in two different crystallographic planes. The thickness and atomic arrangements of hematene in these two crystallographic planes are illustrated, where the red spheres correspond to oxygen, yellow spheres correspond to iron and d is the thickness. The optical images show bulk hematite (left), which sediments, and the exfoliated hematene (right), which stays well dispersed in DMF. The reddish-brown colour of hematene is due to its absorbance in the visible region.  from publication: Exfoliation of a non-van der Waals material from iron ore hematite | With the advent of graphene, the most studied of all two-dimensional materials, many inorganic analogues have been synthesized and are being exploited for novel applications. Several approaches have been used to obtain large-grain, high-quality materials. Naturally occurring | Iron Ore, Hematite and Liquids | ResearchGate, the professional network for scientists.
