The approximately 80 truck drivers from countries including Georgia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have been living at the rest area in their trucks since they went on strike against their Polish employer, Lukasz Mazur, two months ago over missing pay. Local politicians and trade unionists have been supporting the truckers, though so far Mazur has refused to negotiate and instead has filed a lawsuit against the truckers over extortion. Edwin Atema, a trade unionist from Holland who is helping the truckers legally, says their case is an example of a much larger problem of labor exploitation of truckers across Europe.
